SINCE 1995

Clinical practice since 1994. The skilled hands of DR. Hanna Lee

Since beginning clinical practice in 1994, I have met countless patients and learned that good treatment comes from accurate diagnosis and planning, meticulous technique, scientific evidence and a sincere commitment to the patient. These beliefs still guide my work toward healthy, beautiful results.

VALUES

Dr. Lee at around age three

Paper dolls, before I could speak

I am told that I began walking late and speaking even later than other children. Yet even before I could talk, I loved cutting out paper dolls with scissors.

At university, I realized that working with my hands came especially naturally to me. I am grateful for that gift of dexterity.

From Pusan National University to Seoul

I graduated from Pusan National University College of Dentistry in 1994. After a year working as an associate dentist in Ulsan, I moved to Seoul in January 1995 and opened Lee Hanna Dental Clinic. A few years later, I began studying implants and received extensive guidance from Professor Choi Yong-chang while attending the Department of Implantology at the Graduate School of Clinical Dentistry, The Catholic University of Korea.

In 2000, I began immediate-loading full-mouth implant treatment. It remains less common than conventional treatment, and at the time it was a particularly innovative approach.

Discovering the aesthetics of smile design

My interest in cosmetic dentistry began in 2002. To improve the finish of my work, I started designing tooth shapes myself in wax.

This allowed me to show the laboratory exactly what I wanted. As the technicians reproduced my wax designs, my own approach to tooth shape began to develop.

I came to see how a tooth design could harmonize with a patient’s facial proportions, and why thoughtful design was needed to create natural-looking teeth with less tooth reduction.

I went on to publish the Da Vinci Tooth Reshaping Atlas in 2006.

Bringing digital technology into clinical care

In 2007, I introduced the CEREC digital CAD/CAM system.

At the time, I was carrying out laboratory work myself: treating patients during the day and working on restorations at night. I made a substantial investment in CEREC in the hope that it would reduce those late nights.

The technology has advanced greatly since then, but simply buying the equipment did not make every step easy. I spent months working through the night at the clinic to learn the equipment and software. At a recent gathering of CEREC dentists, someone affectionately called me a “living fossil” of the field.

This was the beginning of my same-day CEREC restoration treatments.

Beyond the convenience of completing treatment in one day, I focused on precise veneer treatment that preserved as much natural tooth structure as possible. I developed techniques that addressed aesthetics and function with less tooth reduction and filed patent applications for the related technology.

In recognition of this research and clinical work, I received the Korea Invention Promotion Association President’s Award in 2009 for a minimal-preparation tooth reshaping technique, and obtained patents for technologies including tooth reshaping and implant procedures based on facial proportions.

Clinical experience since 1994

A review of my clinical records showed 90,696 implants placed cumulatively and more than 3,000 full-mouth implant patients as of September 2025.

These varied cases continue to reinforce the importance of individualized care.

I carefully assess general health, oral anatomy, bite, facial proportions and lifestyle, seeking results that restore function and look natural within the face.

This philosophy runs through all care at Harue.

I aim for patients to take an active role in their treatment, with functional stability and aesthetic satisfaction considered together.

It is the principle we have maintained at Harue and the direction I intend to continue.

I believe progress in technology can be a form of care for our patients. That is why I continue to study new digital treatments, restorative materials and aesthetic design systems.

Ultimately, though, the most important part of any technology is the person. A dentist’s role is to understand each patient’s life and feelings, then work toward the best answer within that context.
